Our Story

Music for Development (MFD) started in 2009 as a project of Shurer Dhara, a premier college for Rabindrasangeet and Bengali performing arts based in Dhaka. It began with a vision to improve the lives of the children from the slum areas of Dhaka through music education. In its first year, MFD was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The results of this experiment were so promising that we decided to continue the project indefinitely with funds raised from individual and corporate donors. After fourteen years, MFD now boasts one hundred underprivileged children from different slum areas of Dhaka.
